Code Consultation

In October the Consultation for the Housing Standards Review (HSR) closed. The HSR aim is to reform the framework of Building Regulations, guidance, local codes and standards with the aim of reducing red tape bureaucracy and costs on house builders and supporting growth whilst delivering quality, sustainability, safety and accessibility in developments.

The Housing Standards Review is proposing to reduce the number of locally driven building requirements including the Merton Rule, Lifetime Homes, and the Code for Sustainable Homes and incorporate some of their provisions (e.g. access and water) either into simplified national standards, or direct into the Building Regulations.

No date has been provided on the outcome of this consultation. However, SES will provide updates when information is released.
