Health & Safety Law Poster Reminder

The HSE is reminding businesses that the new version of the Health & Safety law poster must be displayed from 5 April 2014. Under the Health and Safety Information for Employees Regulations, all employers have a legal duty to display the approved poster in a prominent position in the workplace or to provide each worker with a copy of the approved leaflet, outlining British health and safety law, which has also been updated.

So what has changed?
Although first introduced in 2009, HSE set a five-year transition period for replacing the 1999 poster and leaflet with the newer versions. The poster has been designed to better communicate information to employees quickly after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the older poster it replaces was not well-read.

The older style poster has been slowly withdrawn from circulation, reducing the chances that your business is still using it. However if you are unsure which version is currently used on your sites, a quick check glance should tell you – the new poster has pictures and colour printing, while the old one does not.

The full range of posters is available to download for free. See www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/lawposter.htm
